A beloved teacher and environmentalist, Herman Zaage (1927-2008) is an internationally-known printmaker.  During high school, he attended art courses offered by the WPA and during World War II he designed and printed Army training aids. In the 1960s he began printmaking. He is one of the founders of the Art Lab, where he taught printmaking for 32 years beginning in 1972.  His prints are in the collections of the Staten Island Museum, the Noble Maritime Collection, the Museum of the City of New York, the Portland Art Museum, the Purdue University Gallery, and the University of Arizona Art Museum.  In 2005, the Noble Maritime Collection published a catalogue raisonné of his print oeuvre, Bon à tirer: The Prints of Herman Zaage. Herman was a museum Trustee, Noble Crewman, and loyal supporter of our auction.
